While the label says CdR - this drinks like a mini Chateauneuf du Pape (it features fruit from the esteemed Crus of Vacqueyras and Rasteau with two premier Côtes-du-Rhône Villages sites: Roaix & Seguret). Hence the "Four Lands" this cuvee is named for. Textbook southern Rhone blend dominated by Grenache (70%) complimented by bits of Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsault, and Clairette. Hand harvested, 20 days fermentation with stems, matured in concrete and neutral Burgundy oak barrels for 18 months.
True terroir on display here with great depth and complexity - full bodied with a dizzying array of notes leaping out: raspberries, Provencal herbs, crushed stones, and black olive to name a few.
Soil breakdown: Vacqueyras - sandy sloping soils, Roaix - sand and grit, Séguret - Alluvial calcareous clay terraces, Rasteau - Old broken stone terraces and red calcareous soils on a bed of gravel. Let this bottle breathe a bit and pair with your favorite hearty comfort foods - chili con carne, Shepherd's Pie, venison stew - you get the idea.
