The Vijariego came from one parcel, ‘Casa Canales’, which Borja has been working on for the last 5 years, and it is now the best source for this grape. The thick skin of Vijariego protected it from the extreme heat of the vintage, and the total absence of mildew - common in this zone – yielded great fruit this year. The wine was made in concrete, completely destemmed, and aged partially in used foudre and barrique where it went through malolactic. It is vibrant and spicy, with faint smokiness. It feels serious and will make you think of a mountain-wine.
