A property located on the edge of the prestigious Saint-Estephe appellation, Chateau Larrivaux is an emblematic property of the Haut-Medoc appellation on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region. The estate has continued to produce wonderful wines with a unique style over many centuries. Since 1580, the estate of 19 hectares has passed from generation to generation, along a matrilineal line.

Berengere Tesseron took over the family business in 2005, elevating the quality of the estate’s wines to the very top of the appellation, while maintaining the identity of a Cru based on finesse and elegance.

With its exceptional vineyard, home to several different soil types (gravel on deep clay and clay-limestone), Chateau Larrivaux stands out among other properties of the Haut-Medoc appellation due to a varietal composition unusual for the Left Bank, dominated by Merlot (59%).

Product of what is often referred to as a “winemaker’s vintage” (one which truly highlights the talent of the winemaking team) the Chateau Larrivaux 2017 emphasizes the technical precision of winemaking carried out under the supervision of oenologist consultant Eric Boissenot.

Containing a blend of Merlot (59%) combined with Cabernet Sauvignon (29%), Petit Verdot (9%) and Cabernet Franc (8%), the Chateau Larrivaux 2017 reveals the authentic characteristics of its terroir of origin in a style that highlights the elegance of Haut-Medoc.

Freshness and purity of fruit come through strongly on the aromatic palette. On the palate, the frank and juicy attack leads to fleshy fruit and a structure nicely balanced in tannins-acidity. A discreet woodiness testifies to an appropriate use of oak barrels in aging. A superb wine of the Haut-Médoc - fruity, delicious and very fine.

The 2017 Larrivaux offers attractive red and black fruit on the nose: mulberry, raspberry, cedar, and just a light pine cone aroma. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, fresh and focused with a detailed, marine-tinged finish that is very harmonious and long. Excellent- this comes highly recommended

Deep ruby red color, aromas of black currant and licorice. Supple and well structured with elegant tannins. Well balanced and rich this wine offers a long finish. A powerful yet gentle wine. An ideal wine for the modern consumer who likes fresh tannins yet it can also age extremely well

About Chateau Larrivaux
Chateau Larrivaux is one of the few estates in Médoc to have belonged to the same family for 3 generations. Ownership of the estate has been passed down through the female line of the family from generation to generation. In total, Chateau Larrivaux is a 100 hectare estate that includes woodlands, meadows, and abandon quarries. The vineyard is well-oriented, planted on gravelly soils that are the same consistency and quality of those of the great growths in neighboring Pauillac and Saint-Estephe. The Chateau is now managed by Bérengère Tesseron, owner of Lafon Rochet (4th Cru Classe St Estephe) in 2008.
