Joan d'Anguera - Altaroses Montsant 2022 750 ML (14.5% ABV)
This Garnacha wears it’s weight well clocking in at 14.5 % but drinks as if Burgundy met Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Friends of CDP estate Chateau Reyes, their winemaking style reveals this kinship. In Catalonia, a region where primary fruit aromas and flavors are prized, this estate focuses on secondary aromas and flavors such as tobacco, smoke, and spices. They do not pressure wash their barrels but instead use a less invasive technique - burning a sulfur candle in the old French barrels leaving a “library of info, of the cellar” in the barrel.
Altaroses is an ecological red wine from Montsant with a great balance between freshness and power. A well-structured Mediterranean Grenache.
A very savory (almost Amaro-esque) nose of fresh wild strawberries, garrigue spice, menthol and underbrush. Very expressive. Medium weight, with mouth-watering acidity, red berry fruit, licorice, fine tannins. Well-balanced between acidity, tannin, fruit and alcohol, a perfect marriage of elegance and bold complexity.
100% Garnacha from white sandy clay soils, planted in 1988, 200-300m elevation.
