A terrific value skin contact wine made from organically grown Grüner Veltliner planted on soils of gravel, clay and chalk. This bottling spent three weeks on the skins in order to gently extract color and aroma. Just before bottling, some additional Grüner (white wine) was added for a more fruit forward profile.
The wine features a bright orange color with a slightly cloudy appearance. The nose is spicy and forward, with a distinct grapefruit skin aroma, along with notes of peach and apricot. The palate is soft with a bit of tannin from the skins and a nice, animated, fresh finish. The liter bottles make a great value. Spontaneous fermentation, no filtration, and vegan friendly. Certified organic and 12.5% alcohol.
The Wurzinger winery is located in Tadten Seewinkel in Burgenland, near the Hungarian border, just east Lake Neusiedlersee. This land of cool winters and hot summers is the perfect home for this fun and fresh skin-contact Gruner Veltliner. Crisp and crushable, with notes of citrus, stone fruit, and fresh herbs, framed by impressive minerality, food-friendly grip, and mouthwatering freshness. This wine truly lives up to its name "Lustig", meaning "fun" or "happy" in German.
