Naturnaher Weinbau (natural winery - no herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers) Since 2012 - Austria Bio Garantie (in process of biodynamic certification).
Nerd Notes:
Harvested from 4.5ha of Kronberg vineyards planted in 1988 and 1999 on drifted loess. The grapes are hand-harvested in the third week of October, vineyard sorted and de-stemmed. For maceration, 80% of the wine is kept on the skins for 5 hours, pressed and fermented in stainless steel, the other 20% is crushed, fermented and kept on the skins for 30 days in stainless steel. Spontaneously fermentation lasts a total of two weeks with temperature control in stainless steel. The wine spends the entire time on the lees until January, with stirring. Aged in stainless steel for four months. Unfiltered.

Oh my when I learned that our Fave. Duck lady (Maria Pato) made Nerd Duck TWO ways, I nerded out big time. This one is Baga (that thick skinned varietal) right off the skins, not barrel aged. Try them both ! We love all her wines from her native Bairrada Portugal.
Drink Chilled. light bodied, a bit of grip, spice, orchard fruits. just get it.
Joao Pato Nerd Duck 2019
Maria Pato created this project because of her love of the region and varietals and felt constrained by the standards of Bairrada winemaking (the trend being to use varietals that are not indigenous to the region) 94% Fernão Pires, 6% Baga. The grapes are de-stemmed, spend three hours on the skins and co-fermented spontaneously for three weeks. The wine is aged in 600L casks for six months. Unfined/ unfiltered. Drinks like a decade aged Nebbiolo. Clear brick-ish hue, acidity, dusty geranium florals, fresh and lifted. We are proud to be Duckman Nerd Ducks. Join the club.
